THE PROCESS OF IMPLANT TREATMENT

Before our dentists begin the treatment, we will also consider factors such as your medical health. If you qualify, our team will plan treatment accordingly. Our dental implants are designed to look and feel like your natural teeth. Since they are surgically placed into your jawbones, it is impossible to know that they are not your natural teeth. Apart from looking and feeling like your natural teeth, implants offer other benefits. They are the only dental option that preserves your natural bone, and they also outlive dentures and bridges. Additionally, you don’t even have to worry about removing them every night.

Please note that it is essential to ensure your dental implants are clean and well-maintained. Our scheduled teeth cleaning, combined with regular brushing and flossing, will help you keep your dental implant in top condition.

ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANTS

Here are some insights about dental implants:

Dental implants are titanium root-form screws placed within the bone to support a prosthesis.

A patient would require a thorough examination by the dentist to see if they are eligible for dental implants.
Dental implant treatment planning is prosthetically driven.
The use of 3D radiography (medically known as cone-beam computed tomography) and intra-oral scanning aids in treatment planning in dental implant cases.

THE IMPLANT PATHWAY

Initial implant consultation 🡪 full examination 🡪 surgical phase 🡪 healing phase and temporization 🡪 final prosthetic phase 🡪 maintenance

The initial implant consultation is a way for you to get to know us and also for us to get to know you; it gives us an idea of the nature of your problem and how to help you. The consultation is free in our office. The complete examination entails taking records, images, and radiographs and developing a concise treatment plan for your case. The surgical phase is the first step in the implant process; sometimes, multiple surgeries are required depending on the case's complexity. After the surgery, time is needed for the soft and hard tissues to heal or for the implant to osseointegrate. The healing time differs from case to case; it can be as little as 6 weeks or as long as 9 months. The final prosthetic phase is taking scans, impressions, and intra-oral records to fabricate the prosthesis. After the work is done, the patient moves on to the maintenance phase, which is the constant monitoring and cleaning of the work done.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING DENTAL IMPLANTS

Before undergoing dental implant treatment, there are several important factors to consider, such as:

Eligibility: Not everyone is a suitable candidate for dental implants. A thorough examination by a dentist is necessary to evaluate factors such as overall oral health, bone density, and any underlying medical conditions that may affect the success of the implants.

Treatment timeline: Dental implant treatment typically involves multiple stages and requires a certain amount of healing time between each stage. It is essential to understand that the process may take several months from the initial consultation to the final restoration.

Bone quality and quantity: Sufficient bone density and volume are crucial for successful implant placement. In cases where the jawbone lacks the necessary support, additional procedures like bone grafting may be required before implant placement.

Oral hygiene and maintenance: Proper oral hygiene is essential for the long-term success of dental implants. Maintaining good oral habits, including regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups, is vital to prevent complications such as implant failure or peri-implantitis.

Cost considerations: Dental implants are a long-term investment in oral health and aesthetics. It is essential to discuss the cost of the treatment with the service provider.

Potential risks and complications: Like any surgical procedure, dental implant treatment carries certain risks and complications, although they are relatively rare as implant success rate is approximately 98%.

IMPLANT CROWNS

Implant crowns play a crucial role in restoring both the aesthetics and functionality of a patient's smile. Here’s how they work:

Dental implants are an option to replace missing teeth.
An implant crown is a way to replace a single tooth that was lost.

The advantage of implant crowns is that they are fixed and have high longevity and success rates.

IMPLANT BRIDGES

If multiple adjacent teeth were lost either due to disease or trauma, an implant bridge may be the best option for you. It involves the placement of several dental implants which hold different teeth together. They are fixed in your mouth, so you do not have to worry about losing or taking them out at night. Their advantages are the same as implant crowns.

OVERDENTURES ON IMPLANTS

Want to know if you are a candidate for overdentures? Here are a few things to consider:

If you lost most or all of your teeth in your upper or lower jaw, or you want to improve your current denture’s oral function, overdentures may be your best option.
It involves placing as little as two dental implants in the jaw and connecting them to your dentures through male and female-like attachments called locators.
This option will improve denture retention, stability, and support.
They eliminate the need to use a denture adhesive.

BENEFITS:

There are many benefits of overdentures, including:

Enhanced stability
Improved retention
Increased quality of oral function

IMPLANT BAR OVERDENTURE

Here are some facts about implant bar overdenture:

An implant bar overdenture is another method to improve oral function for edentulous patients.

It involves the placement of multiple implants in the arch and the fabrication of a titanium bar that splints the implants together.

The bar connects to the denture to give you incredible denture support, retention, and stability.

Bar overdentures can be removable or permanently fixed in the mouth.

The bar distributes occlusal forces on the implants in the arch, which improves longevity and reduces the amount of plastic on the denture.
They also help the patient generate high occlusal forces for improved mastication.

Bar overdentures will be your option if you want a high-quality treatment to replace and restore your arch.

ALL-ON-X FIXED PROSTHESIS

The All-on-X fixed prosthesis is a groundbreaking dental solution for patients with missing teeth. Here is how it works:

All-On-X fixed prosthesis is dentistry’s best and top-quality option to restore a full arch.

It involves the placement of multiple implants in the arch and the fabrication of a full-arch zirconia prosthesis that connects to the implants.

Using zirconia as a prosthetic material provides a very high aesthetic appearance and rigidity to the prosthesis.

ORAL SURGERY

Implants are titanium screws surgically integrated into your bone, followed by the placement of a crown over it. The process takes place in three steps, which is also known as the Implant Triad:

3

Placement of titanium screws in the bone by a dentist
Restoration of the implant by a dentist
Fabrication of prosthetics by dental technicians

We try our best to save teeth as long as they are salvable, but due to unfortunate circumstances, sometimes teeth have to be extracted to improve the oral health of the patient. Our office has instrumentation and techniques to conduct atraumatic extractions to preserve as much natural bone as possible and lessen post-operative pain.

BONE GRAFT

Bone grafts (medically referred to as guided bone regeneration) are techniques used to grow more bone in specific areas where required. They are adjunct techniques used with dental implants to provide successful results. Long story short, if you do not have the bone, then we make the bone.

Bone graft materials:

Autograft - bone taken from the same person from another site

Allograft - bone taken from another human who donated their bone post-mortem

Xenograft - bone taken from animal sources (either cows or pigs)
Alloplast - synthesized bone from the lab made from calcium phosphate

Depending on the case, the doctor will select an appropriate material upon the patient's consent.

SOCKET PRESERVATION

When teeth are extracted, a socket preservation procedure may be indicated to preserve the bony ridge. A natural sequela of tooth extraction is for the bone to collapse, thus leaving a thin ridge. This results in less bone being available for possible implant placement in the future. Placing bone graft material inside the socket helps prevent the ridge from collapsing and provides more bone volume.

SINUS LIFTING

Some situations result in loss of bone height in the posterior aspect of the upper jaw, by which a sinus lift would be required to restore the lost bone. The procedure entails lifting the membrane, which lines the sinus with the maxilla, and placement of bone.

TEETH EXTRACTION

Tooth decay, tooth fractures, or severe crowding are some of the many reasons teeth might need extractions. While it may sound like a scary procedure, do not worry, you won’t feel a thing in the dental chair, and we also have specific instrumentation and techniques to remove teeth atraumatically to preserve your natural bone and decrease post-operative pain.
